Dr. Martin Sokoloski ‘55 is a well-respected research physicist who has consulted with the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) on the Mars Initiative as well as the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Ames Research Center. Dr. Sokoloski was also chosen to serve as an Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE) Society’s Congressional Fellow for 2004. The program, coordinated by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, places scientists in Congressional offices, allowing them the opportunity to work with staff on issues in areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Dr. Sokoloski currently serves as Chair of the IEEE-USA Committee on Research & Development Technology Policy and is a member of the National Science Foundation’s Science of Science Policy Workshop. Among his countless professional memberships and awards, Dr. Sokoloski was presented in 2005 with the IEEE-USA Citation of Honor for the Creation of the Congressional Research & Development Caucus. He was also recognized by NASA with the Exceptional Performance Award twice within a five-year period and was appointed to the President’s National Commission on Superconductivity by President Ronald Reagan in 1989.
