MMI Preparatory School’s 2017-2018 edition of the Angst Literary Magazine received a Superior ranking in the 2018 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Program. 

MMIs Angst Literary MagazineThe mission of NCTE’s REALM Program is to recognize excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. 

This is the second consecutive year that MMI students received an award from the NCTE for the literary magazine. Last year, the NCTE recommended MMI’s publication for its highest award and the publication earned a silver award from the Pennsylvania School Press Association.

MMI English instructor Jennifer Novotney worked with a group of student editors to publish the literary magazine. Angst Literary Magazine student editors were Jaclyn Braunstein ‘18, Nicolo Cottone ‘18, Kelisa Hysenbegasi, Mahum Ahmed, Alyssa Sweda, Lauren Herman, Madeline Dryfoos, Macy Zenier, Adam Tron, and Emily Ankiewicz.

State and national judges complete the first round of judging. Judging is based on a point system. The total points awarded to magazines determine placement. Magazines that received between 86 and 100 points are deemed Superior.
