MMI Preparatory School chamber ensemble students performed three songs they helped compose with the nationally renowned Wister Quartet during the Grammy-nominated ensemble’s visit to the school last month.
This is the 13th consecutive year that the Wister Quartet has performed at MMI. The performance was made possible through the support of Dr. James W. Feussner ’65 in memory of Elizabeth Feussner.
The students composed and performed the songs “Sunny Days,” “A Walk in the Woods (Or, the Perils of Little Red Riding Hood),” and “Song for Peace” along with Wister Quartet violinists Nancy Bean and Davyd Booth, violist Pamela Fay and cellist Lloyd Smith, and their guest, Allen Krantz, a critically acclaimed guitarist, composer, and chamber musician. All three pieces were arranged by Lloyd Smith.
This year’s program was entitled “Musical Personas” and featured “Serenade, for violin, cello, and guitar” by Mauro Giuliani, “An Alm for the Love of God, for guitar solo” by Augustín Barrios and “String Quartet in D Major, Op. 44, No. 1” by Felix Mendelssohn.
