MMI sweeps top three places in regional Stock Market Game competition

MMI Preparatory School teams swept the top three positions in the seventh and eighth grade division in the year-long edition of the Stock Market Game for the University of Scranton region. The competition’s objective is to introduce participants to the fundamentals of investing.

The team of Ayla Cooper, Carly Pennington, Harriet Wilson and Maya Rizkalla captured first place in the competition. Madyson Hornack, Benjamin Putnam, Joshua Serock and Grant Warren came in second. Emily Ankiewicz, Catrina Havrilla, Adam Tron, Macy Zenier and Abigail Walters finished third. MMI social sciences instructor Michael Scarlato was the student adviser for the competition.

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation’s acclaimed Stock Market Game program is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students grades 4-12 in the world of economics, investing and personal finance and prepares them for financially independent futures. More than 600,000 students take part every school year across all 50 states. The Stock Market Game has reached 16 million students since its inception in 1977.
