For the 14th consecutive year, MMI Preparatory School will host the Grammy-nominated Wister Quartet for a public performance at the school on Monday, March 6, at 7 p.m. The performance is made possible through the support of Dr. James W. Feussner ’65 in memory of Elizabeth Feussner.
Once again this year, the Wister Quartet will perform with guitarist Allen Krantz, a critically acclaimed guitarist, composer and chamber musician. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Athletics and Drama Complex on the MMI campus at 154 Centre St., Freeland. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Members of the quartet are violinists Nancy Bean and Davyd Booth, violist Pamela Fay, and cellist Lloyd Smith.
This year’s program is entitled “Anticipation” and features music composed by Luigi Boccherini, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Johannes Brahms. The program also includes two pieces developed from ideas by MMI students and arranged by Lloyd Smith and Allen Krantz.
The Wister Quartet will also perform for MMI students during an afternoon assembly at the school the day of the concert.
MMI Head of School D. Scott Wiggins said, “The members of the Wister Quartet, as well as Allen Krantz, have become dear friends to the MMI community and we’re pleased to welcome them back for another performance. It was very exciting for us when the Wister Quartet selected a song composed by MMI students to perform as s part of their national 2016-2017 concert season. We are grateful to them for giving their time to help arrange compositions with our chamber ensemble. As a result of this collaboration, our students have gained an incredible amount of knowledge and experience in the arts that they will carry with them into the future.”
