MMI Preparatory School junior Sydney Karpowich was selected to attend the Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship, which will be held from July 2 through July 29 at Lehigh University. Karpowich is the daughter of Atty. Donald Karpowich and Tracy Gallagher, Sugarloaf.
The Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship brings American high school sophomores and juniors together with international high school students from all regions of the world for four weeks to learn about entrepreneurship, globalization, team building, project management, leadership and working within a culturally diverse environment. The curriculum includes core courses in business, ethics, marketing, basic accounting and globalization that are taught by Lehigh University faculty and community leaders.
The competitive program is open to all current high school sophomores and juniors. The selection committee evaluates each application individually for evidence of academic ability, leadership, entrepreneurship and community service.
Program graduates will know how to evaluate whether an idea has the potential to be a successful innovation, work as part of an international team, and learn how to develop a functional business and marketing plan.
The program also covers courses in specific areas of business such as negotiating, human resources, and financial markets. Students also gather as a team for a group project that applies what they’ve learned to help a local business develop a solution for an actual problem they are facing. In addition to the courses, students have the opportunity to meet with local entrepreneurs and hear their real-life stories of success and lessons learned. Students will also take educational field trips to New York City and Harrisburg.
