Director of Facilities

Mr. Joseph Stepansky began working at MMI in 2000 as a member of the maintenance team and was quickly elevated to Maintenance Supervisor a year later. He was promoted to Director of Facilities in 2016, and serves as the liaison to the Building and Grounds Committee of the Board of Directors. Before being hired at MMI, Mr. Stepansky worked in maintenance at St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1989-2000.

Mr. Stepansky has served as a member of the Freeland Fire Department as a firefighter since he was 16 years old. Now the Chief of the FFD, he follows in the footsteps of his late father and grandfather, who were both firefighters and were both also named Joseph. His brother, Larry Stepansky; his nephews, Larry Jr. and Nathan Stepansky, and his daughter, Audrey, are all firefighters.

Chief Stepansky has earned numerous awards during his firefighting career including a Certificate for Valor and Firefighter Certificate of Commendation from Freeland American Legion Post 473 in 2014, a Certificate of Heroism from the Freeland American Legion Post in 2019, a Lehigh Valley Preferred Spirit of Courage Award in 2020, and in 2022 he was inducted into The Six County Fireman’s Association Chiefs Hall of Fame.

Chief Stepansky lives in Freeland with his wife, Janine. They are parents to one daughter, Audrey, who is a member of MMI’s Class of 2015 and also a firefighter, and grandparents of Arianna and Isabella.
