College Counseling

At MMI, our college counseling process is meant to be individualized and student-centered.

Our philosophy is that the students are the center of this process from beginning to end. We expect them to take responsibility for meeting deadlines, researching colleges, registering for tests, and completing applications. The defining strength of our program is the truly exceptional degree of personal attention our college counselor is able to provide to each student. Our college counselor is here to support, encourage, and counsel students as they navigate the many available college options.

The college counseling process begins during the sophomore year through a specific College Counseling Course. This course continues into the 11th grade year, and individualized meetings with students and parents begin in the second half of junior year. Seniors enroll in a Senior Seminar course for the entirety of their senior year, and our college counselor uses this time to best facilitate all facets of the college application and financial aid process during the fall semester, and the many aspects of college transition during the spring semester.

As a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), MMI affirms NACAC’s statement of Students’ Rights and Responsibilities in the college admission process. Our college counselor regularly visits college campuses and attends college admission events locally, regionally, and nationally. Throughout the year, MMI is visited by admission representatives from colleges and universities across the country. This professional activity provides MMI students and parents with a counselor who is knowledgeable, up-to-date, and connected to professional peers on college campuses and at other schools.

While the central focus of college counseling is helping students navigate the college search and application process, our assistance does not end there. We are committed to helping MMI families secure financial aid and merit scholarships for college.

We believe in working collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and administrators, who are all key to the success of the college process. Honest communication, willingness to keep an open mind, patience, and a positive, balanced attitude all go a long way toward creating a smooth college planning process, which ultimately leads to students identifying their best college matches.
