Mr. James Lundy ’73 held the all-time scoring record on the MMI Boys Basketball team with a total of 1,644 points for 36 years. The majority of 1,000 point scorers hit the 1,000 mark in their senior year of the sport but Mr. Lundy hit that mark in his junior year. In his senior year, He was named Most Valuable Player of the basketball team and helped take the team to the Class C State Championship by scoring 31 points in the title game. Mr. Lundy’s 616 total points in the 1972-1973 season guided the Preppers to the Anthracite League Championship as well as the PIAA District Championship. He was recognized as the region’s most outstanding athlete with the Scotty Roman Award in 1973. He was also named to the United Press International Class C All-State First Team in his senior year. In addition to his skills on the basketball court Mr. Lundy was also an outstanding member of the MMI Baseball team for four years. He doubled as both a top pitcher as well as an essential hitter with an MMI career batting average of .342.
