MMI Preparatory School recently held its annual Spanish 2 Piñata contest. The contest continues the Spanish tradition of constructing papier-mâché figures for children’s celebrations, birthdays, holidays and traditional festivals.
Under the leadership of Spanish teacher Dennis Clarke, MMI students spent several weeks designing, building and decorating their piñatas.
Sophomore Dana Carrato, daughter of Anthony and Carmine Carrato, Hazleton, won first place for her piñata, “The Coca-Cola can.” Sophomore Jonathan Smith, son of Jonathan and Beatrice Smith, White Haven, won second place for his piñata, “Bowser.” Sophomore Gabriella DeMelfi, daughter of Daniel and Esme DeMelfi, Hazleton, won third place for her piñata of “Tardis” from Doctor Who.
