Emily Seratch, a 2015 MMI Preparatory School graduate, placed sixth in the competitive event of Client Service at the 2015 FBLA National Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois.
Seratch, the daughter of Frank and Sarah Seratch of Hazleton, earned national recognition among thousands of other high school students. A total of 11,000 students gathered from all over the country to compete for national accolades. Among those competitors were 400 students from Pennsylvania, including five representatives from MMI.
In addition to Seratch, Syed Qadri, Allison McGeehan, Jessica Smith, and Jonathan Smith received high scores at the Pennsylvania FBLA State Leadership Conference in Hershey in April, earning the right to compete at the national level. Qadri is the son of Syed and Saffiyah of Drums, McGeehan is the daughter of Thomas and Sandra McGeehan of Drums, and Jessica and Jonathan Smith are the daughter and son of Jonathan Smith and Beatrice Russo-Smith of White Haven.
After competing in their respective events, the MMI students had the opportunity to attend business workshops, network with other students and leading professionals within the FBLA organization, and visit some of Chicago’s best-known attractions. The students also had the chance to meet and dine with Jed Sielberg ’92, at Webber’s Grill in Downtown Chicago.
FBLA Adviser Katherine Zucco accompanied the group and said it was exciting to follow these students on their journey.
“The real victory for me has been watching these students step up to the challenge. The countless hours, weeks, and months they put into preparing for this makes them all champions, and it has been truly wonderful to be a part of their journey,” she said.
