The new school year is about to begin at MMI Preparatory School in Freeland.
Orientation will be held August 24 from 8:15 A.M.-1:00 P.M. A continental breakfast will be served to parents and students with lunch being provided to students before wrapping up the day. The orientation will help new students get acclimated to the school, fellow students, teachers, counselors, coaches, administrators, and school staff. Student ambassadors will be on hand to help new students with their transition to MMI.
The first full day of school for all students is August 25. Bus transportation and lunches will be available beginning that day.
Head of School Thomas Hood said 251 students are enrolled at MMI for the upcoming school year. The breakdown by grade is: sixth grade, 32 students; seventh grade, 40 students; eighth grade, 26 students; ninth grade, 42 students; 10th grade, 39 students; 11th grade, 41 students, and 12th grade, 31 students.
MMI will hold Visitation Nights on November 16, 2015, and January 11, 2016, when prospective students and their parents will have the opportunity to tour the school and the newly expanded campus while learning more about MMI. They will hear about the school’s 9:1 student-to-teacher ratio and how nearly 100 percent of students go on to college, including some of the nation’s top colleges and universities. Prospective students and parents will also see the Joseph A. Turri ’45 Library and Learning Center and learn about MMI’s athletic fields.
MMI will hold its entrance examination for the 2016-2017 school year on January 30, 2016.
“It’s best to start the process early if you’re thinking about an MMI education for your child,” Hood said. “Our Visitation Nights and Entrance Exam provide the perfect opportunity for families to see MMI for themselves and learn more about our school.”
MMI provides tuition assistance for many families, with 50 percent of students receiving financial aid for the upcoming school year. Students are receiving a total of $867,469 in need-based aid. In addition, MMI gave Academic Excellence Awards to 93 students, totaling $93,000 in merit-based scholarships.
“Visitation Night is an excellent time to speak with us about financial aid and how MMI is a possibility for your child,” Hood said. “We have had several parents tell us how MMI’s generous financial aid packages have made an MMI education very affordable for their family.”
