Mrs. Novotney joined the MMI faculty in the summer of 2013 as the English teacher for eighth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students. She has served as the English Department Chair since 2015 and teaches courses including Advanced Placement Language and Composition, Creative Writing, and Intro to Literary Analysis. She previously worked at Misericordia University as the Coordinator of Writing and an Adjunct English Instructor, as well as The Pennsylvania State University at Hazleton as an Adjunct English Instructor. Prior to her move east, Mrs. Novotney taught English in Los Angeles, California.
Mrs. Novotney serves as the Poetry Out Loud coordinator and has had the opportunity to take MMI Students to the state-level competition. She is also the advisor for MMI's recognized Literary Magazine. Her students have received gold, silver, and honorable mention recognition in the Scholastic Writing Awards as well as placed in several national, regional, and local writing competitions.

Mrs. Novotney earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from California State University, Northridge and a Master of Arts in English from Northern Arizona University. She holds a teaching credential in English in both California and Pennsylvania. In 2016, she was awarded the High School Teacher of Excellence Award at the National Council of Teachers of English National Convention where she also presented on balancing the teacher/writer life. She published two young adult novels, one of which won a Children's Moonbeam Award. She also served as the Vice President for Secondary Schools for the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English Language Arts. In 2018, she was awarded the PEARL Award from the YWCA in the education category for her service to the community in her field.
Mrs. Novotney currently resides in Freeland with her husband Tim and daughter Serena '26. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, and gardening.
