Lisa Marie Ferry honored as Outstanding Non-Public Art Educator and delivers presentation at PA Art Education Association conference

MMI Preparatory School art instructor Lisa Marie Ferry was honored with the 2017 Pennsylvania Art Education Association Outstanding Non-Public Art Educator Award and delivered a presentation at the 2017 Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA) conference, which was held in October in Pittsburgh.

Earlier this year, Ferry was selected to receive the 2017 Pennsylvania Art Education Association Outstanding Non-Public Art Educator Award. The award recognizes exemplary contributions, achievements and service to art education at the state, regional and national levels. It is given on behalf of the PAEA Awards Committee and PAEA Board.  She received the award at the conference. 

Ferry also delivered a presentation entitled “Empower Your Student’s Creative Side with Growth Mindset Strategies,” which was designed to help attendees determine what kind of mindset they have. Following an engaging hands–on activity and discussion, participants learned the difference between fixed and growth mindsets and discovered different creative growth mindset strategies to use in their own classrooms.

In addition to her presentation, Ferry also served as the conference photographer and was the Region 9 representative, which covers Luzerne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties.  At the 2016 PAEA conference, Ferry delivered a presentation on how to create art activities and an art journaling kit based on postmodern principles to help alleviate anxiety and stress symptoms.

In the fall of 2016, Ferry earned the prestigious Master of Arts degree in Art Education with an Emphasis in Special Populations from Moore College of Art and Design.

The Pennsylvania Art Education Association actively supports and promotes visual art education through professional development, leadership, and service. The annual conference features three days of workshops and sessions, keynote speeches, art exhibitions, a virtual student art show and awards presentations and attracts hundreds art teachers, prospective teachers, college and university professors, and retirees from around the Commonwealth.
