MMI honors ‘Best of the Best’ students for fall semester

MMI Preparatory School recognized six students as the “Best of the Best” during an assembly program held at the school recently. The overall Best of the Best honor for the first semester was awarded to senior Luke Yamulla, son of Dr. Robert and Atty. Ann Yamulla of Sugarloaf, for his presentation on presidential candidates.

The school’s assembly program provides each student with the opportunity to explore varied subject areas not typically studied in the classroom. Students present a topic of interest to them such as art, music, geography, or culture before a larger audience than they would be exposed to in a daily classroom environment.

Each MMI student in grades 7 through 12 makes at least one appearance in an assembly program each school year. Students in grades eight, ten, and twelve made their presentations in the first semester of the school year. Students in grades seven, nine, and eleven will complete their assemblies in the spring semester.

The best student performances from the first-semester assemblies are presented to a joint assembly of both upper school and middle school students and rated outstanding by the MMI faculty to determine the “Best of the Best.”

The other Best of the Best presenters were eighth grader Catherine Havrilla, daughter of James and Emily Havrilla of Mountaintop, for her presentation on skateboarding; eighth grader Grant Warren, son of Richard Warren and Atty. Rebecca Warren of Danville, for his presentation on biomimicry; sophomore Lauren Babinetz, daughter of Michael and Patricia Babinetz of Jim Thorpe, for her presentation on theories of the universe; sophomore Anna Haber, daughter of Dr. John and Cathryn Haber of Tresckow, for her presentation on the ukulele; and sophomore Julia Snyder, daughter of Dr. Christopher and Dr. Jill Snyder of Sugarloaf, for her presentation on limits.

MMI Head of School Thomas G. Hood said, “The assembly program is designed to improve and enhance communication skills which are important to students as they progress through high school, college, and beyond. We are proud of our students for their performance during assemblies and commend them on a job well done.”
