District 2 PIAA Awards

MMI Preparatory School honored students for their athletic performances during the annual Upper School Awards Convocation on May 16.

MMI Head of School D. Scott Wiggins and Athletic Director Jason Tribbet presented the awards, along with coaches from each team.

Madison Perchak, Gabriella Kupsho, and George Palmero received the 2018 District 2 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Scholar-Athlete awards, which are presented to male and female athletes who participated in MMI’s athletic program for multiple years, maintained high academic grades, and were involved in community and school service.

During the ceremony, junior Jessica McClellan received an award from the Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC) for her medalist round in the Pre-District golf tournament and was honored for advancing to the PIAA Championships. 

Teams recognized Most Valuable Players, Most Improved Players, and Coaches Award recipients. Award winners are as follows:

Baseball: MVP – George Palermo, and Coaches Award – Marc Lobitz and Michael Badamo.

Boys Basketball: Co-MVPs – George Palermo and Michael Badamo, and Most Improved – Matthew Marchetti.

Girls Basketball: MVP – Madison Perchak, Most Improved – Jessica McClellan, and Coaches Award – Morgan Allen.

Cheerleading: MVP – Abigail Paul, Most Improved – Juliana Salio, and Coaches Award – Lauren Freeman.

Boys Cross Country: MVP – John Malay, Most Improved – Daniel DeMelfi, and Coaches Award – Mark Sitch.

Golf Jessica McClellanGirls Cross Country: MVP – Samantha Sparich, Most Improved – Morgan Hosier, and Coaches Award – Lauren Herman.

Golf: MVPs – George Palermo, Jessica McClellan, and Morgan Long.

Soccer: MVP – Ian Dewar, Most Improved – Kai Mele, and Coaches Award – Alexander Sessock.

Softball: Co-MVPs – Gabriella Kupsho and Madison Perchak, and Coaches Award – Caelyn McGran.

Boys Tennis: Co-MVPs – Christian Badamo and Zander Spear, and Coaches Award – Josiah Pacchioli.

Girls Tennis: MVP – Katharine Pinto, Most Improved – Dominique Kline, and Coaches Award – Jaclyn Braunstein.

Volleyball: MVP – Gabriella Kupsho, Most Improved – Summer Evancho, and Coaches Award – Stephanie Zellner.
