MMI Preparatory School inducted 27 eighth grade students into the National Junior Honor Society for the 2019-2020 school year.

Students inducted are: Diane Arias Tejeda, daughter of Angela Tejeda of Hazleton; Teagan Bonham, son of William and Melissa Bonham of Sugarloaf; Emily Borchick, daughter of Lance and Cynthia Borchick of Drums; Andrew Burns, son of Jill Burns of White Haven; London Chehovich, daughter of Jessica Quinn of Hazle Township and Michael Cheovich of Nesquehoning; John Drobnock, son of John and Lani Drobnock of West Hazleton; Reed Floryshak, son of Aaron and Grete Floryshak of Sugarloaf and Roxanne Floryshak of Conyngham; Caylee Herseim, daughter of Jeremy and Casey Herseim of Hazle Township; Emily Hunsinger, daughter of Timothy and Shannon Hunsinger of Sugarloaf; Angelica Jimenez, daughter of Tania Castillo of Hazleton; Caitlin Lenahan, daughter of David DelRegno and Margaret Lenahan of Mountaintop; Lex Lispi, son of Tino Lispi and Fran Fasching of Lake Harmony; Gianna Longworth, daughter of Lauren DeStefano of Freeland; Edgar Lopez-Rodriguez, son of Eduart Lopez and Veronica Rodriguez of Hazle Township; Frankie Martinelli, daughter of Frank Martinelli and Susan Sernak-Martinelli of Drums; Nathaniel Neidlinger, son of Amanda Neidlinger of Weatherly; Robert Orbin, son of Robert and Lynn Orbin of Mountaintop; Sophia Plonk, daughter of Jeremy and Andrea Plonk of Hazle Township; Dominic Raifsnider, son of Tricia Suveg of Lake Harmony; Jakob Rossi, son of Sue Rossi of Drums; Jason Salio, son of Tracy and Joseph Kress of Sugarloaf and Sylvester Salio of Swoyersville; Kathryn Sissick, daughter of Michelle Mendofik and Thomas Edwards of Drums and Jeffrey Sissick of McAdoo; Nathan Sissick, son of Michelle Mendofik and Thomas Edwards of Drums and Jeffrey Sissick of McAdoo; Abigail Sparich, daughter of Joseph and Michele Sparich of Weatherly; Connor Strecker, son of Peter and Tara Strecker of Mountaintop; Blake Warren, son of Atty. Rebecca Warren of Beaver Meadows and Richard Warren of Danville; and Leo Zvonik, son of Sergey and Lydiya Zvonik of Albrightsville.

To gain membership, a student must demonstrate scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship for the entirety of their seventh-grade year and the first semester of their eighth-grade year.

Amanda Shonk, National Junior Honor Society advisor, said, “As the advisor to our school’s chapter, I am very excited to personally welcome these 27 new additions to the National Junior Honor Society for the 2019-2020 school year. Students entering the NJHS at the middle school level are beginning the early stages of greater independence and responsibility, seek to excel in academics, show an interest in leadership and service, and have a thirst for challenge and accomplishment.”
