MMI Preparatory School recently held an induction ceremony to welcome new members to the Spanish, Chinese and German national honor societies.
Head of School D. Scott Wiggins welcomed those in attendance to open the ceremony. University of Scranton Professor Marie Karam, German Fulbright Scholar Sarah Schrier and visiting Chinese Lecturer Allison Lai were the guest speakers.
MMI Spanish instructor Syra Dewar inducted new members who distinguished themselves as outstanding Spanish language students into the Pablo Picasso Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica. Students inducted are: Nicholas Carrato, son of Dr. Anthony and Carmine Carrato, Hazleton; Keefer Hoover, son of Jai and Ninotchka Hoover, Mountaintop; Alexander Kline, son of Dr. Gerard and Caterina Kline, Mountaintop; Morgan Long, son of David and Theresa Long, Mountaintop; Kaitlyn McGeehan, daughter of Thomas and Sandra McGeehan, Drums; Frederick Mejia, son of Carlos and Esperanza Mejia, West Hazleton; Desiree Petrick, granddaughter of John Petrick, Freeland; Maxwell Santana, son of Yris Aquino, Hazleton; Alexander Sessock, son of Jennifer and James Denion, Freeland, and the late John Sessock; and Zachary Young, son of Christian and Nicole Young, Freeland. Chapter officers Allison McGeehan, president; Daniel Tron, vice president; Kevin Cibak, secretary; Caitlyn Kline, treasurer; and Angelica Alday, historian, also participated in the ceremony.
Chinese Honor Society President Danielle Pileggi gave a welcome address and inducted new members who distinguished themselves as outstanding Chinese language students into MMI’s Echoes of Wisdom and Philosophy chapter of the National Chinese Honor Society. Keenan Overa, chapter treasurers, secretary and historian, gave an introduction and chapter Vice President Erin Sari provided English translations. Students inducted are: Lauren Babinetz, daughter of Michael and Patricia Babinetz, Jim Thorpe; Kyle Falatko, son of Robert Falatko, Freeland, and Christine Falatko, Freeland; Gunner Jankouskas, son of Aprilaurie Whitley and Terry Jankouskas, Sugarloaf; Joshua Kalada-Kania, son of Kevin Kania and Susan Kalada, Drums; Sydney Karpowich, daughter of Atty. Donald Karpowich and Tracy Gallagher, Sugarloaf; James Lambert, son of James and Kate Lambert, Blakeslee; Cole Wenner, son of Darren and Tracy Wenner, Lehighton; and Stephanie Zellner, daughter of Stephen and Theresa Zellner, Drums.
MMI German instructor Gabriela Moustardas inducted new members who distinguished themselves as outstanding German language students into the Simon Faltz Chapter of the German National Honor Society, Delta Epsilon Phi. Students inducted are: Daniel DeMelfi, son of Daniel and Esme DeMelfi, Hazleton; Benjamin Lloyd, son of Stephanie and Christopher Uricheck, Freeland; Matthew Marchetti, son of David and Andrea Marchetti, Freeland; Jessica McClellan, daughter of Bruce and Patricia McClellan, Freeland; and Coleman Smith, son of Keith and Laura Smith, White Haven. Chapter officers Megan Marchetti, president; Evan Dryfoos, vice president; David Caldwell, secretary; and Nicolo Cottone, treasurer, also participated in the ceremony.
