MMI Preparatory School junior Danielle Pileggi is one of only 160 students worldwide who were recently selected from hundreds of applicants to attend this year’s Leadership in the Business World program offered by Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Pileggi, the daughter of Daniel and Sandra Pileggi of Albrightsville, will attend the highly-selective program from July 3 to July 30 on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus in Philadelphia.
Sponsored by Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Leadership in the Business World is an intensive summer program for a select group of rising high school seniors with demonstrated leadership ability who want an introduction to a top-notch undergraduate business education and the opportunity to hone their leadership, teamwork and communication skills. Since 1999, students from six continents and nearly every state have attended the program at the Wharton School.
Stephanie Shandra Swietnicki, MMI college admissions counselor, said, “I’m so excited that Danielle has been selected to attend the Leadership in the Business World program. It’s wonderful to have an MMI student chosen for a highly selective program at such a prestigious institution like the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.”
Leadership in the Business World offers opportunities to learn about leadership in 21st century organizations through a dynamic and rigorous mix of classes with Wharton professors and business leaders, company site visits and team-building activities. During the month, students attend lectures and presentations from outstanding Wharton faculty and guest speakers and engage in classroom discussions about core business subjects, entrepreneurship and leadership.
The participants receive coaching on communication and team-building skills from six upper-level Wharton undergraduates who serve as Resident Team Advisors and visit business enterprises and speak with successful leaders across various industries including finance, entrepreneurship, entertainment, real estate and retail. The students develop and enhance leadership skills through collaborative teamwork, including a project to design and present an original business plan that is evaluated by a panel of venture capitalists and business professionals.
Admission to Leadership in the Business World is based on a record of academic excellence, demonstrated leadership and a genuine interest in developing leadership skills. Applicants are required to submit a high school transcript, school profile, two letters of recommendation from teachers and a short essay.
