MMI Preparatory School is currently accepting registrations for its 17 fun-filled summer camps open to all area students. The camps will be offered in morning and afternoon sessions from the week of June 24 to the week of July 22 on the MMI campus at 154 Centre Street in Freeland.
MMI faculty and staff along with instructors from Sciensational Camps and Box of Light will lead the summer camps. Although each camp is open only to certain age groups, there are offerings for students from ages six through 15. A full list of camps, dates and times are listed below.
All camps are $155 for the week and run for three hours each day over five days. Campers staying all day should bring a bag lunch and will be supervised over the lunch break. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided.

Week of June 24
Let’s Get Crafty! Camp (Ages 6-12) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Let your personality and creativity show though a fun-filled week of DIY projects! Campers will create their own custom string art, no-sew blankets, a colorful t-shirt rag rug, picture frame dry-erase board, tie-dye shirt, succulent terrarium, and much more!
Sports Camp (Ages 6-12) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Love to run, jump, and explore new sports? This camp allows every camper to get a little taste of sports fundamentals in areas like football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and more!
Ooey Gooey Science Camp (Ages 6-12) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Explore the messy side of science in this fun-filled Ooey Gooey Science Camp! Make bottle rockets, instant snow, slime, elephant toothpaste, and much more! Roll up your sleeves, have fun, and conduct some cool science experiments.
Silly Storybook Theater Camp (Ages 6-12) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Like to laugh? Silly kids only for this MMI Summer Camp! Campers will produce and perform amusing plays based on classic storybook tales such as Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, and the Three Little Pigs. The children will participate in creating dialogue, props, scenery, and costumes. Our camp pledge is fun, fun, fun for all Storybook campers! Families are invited on the last day of camp to be audience members for our “Big Time Production”!
Week of July 8
Brick Building – With Lights and Sounds Camp (Ages 7-12) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Interested in becoming an architect and electronics scientist? Make endless combinations of brick construction and electronics. How about building your own light post with color effects? Build and design your own brick tower, light it up, play music, and turn on your LED’S. Build your own brick bridge with melody and sound. Construct a brick mammal, a three-level house, and lighthouse. Put in overhead lights. The sky is the limit! And, you get to take it all home. STEAM your way to the future!
Crafty Messy Art Camp (Ages 6-12) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Get ready to get messy! Crafty Messy Art Camp is for boys and girls who want to celebrate getting messy while creating one-of-a-kind artwork and having a blast! Campers use a variety of mediums such as watercolor, acrylic paint, pastels, shaving cream, water balloons, and much more! Campers need to wear clothes and shoes that parents don’t mind getting dirty or ruined. Because yes, we WILL get messy!
The Incredible Wall Hugging Mouse Robot Camp (Ages 7-12) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Wow! Build your own wall hugging mouse robot to take home! When the bump sensor makes contact with the wall, a switch motor directs power to the left motor. This simple behavior allows this incredible mouse to follow any vertical surface on the left. You will see all this amazing action after building your own! Your mouse can be decorated with eyes, ears, and whisker stickers – or create and draw your own! Learning through
the inquiry method and STEAM based principles, you will also build other robots working in smaller groups. Build a sumo wrestler, have tug of war events, and make the robots perform creative things for your group. Robots in this portion of the workshop are not taken home.
Cake Decorating Camp (Ages 9-14) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Attention all would be artists who have an interest in learning how to decorate cakes and cupcakes like a pro! This cake decorating camp will give you beginner skills in piping, icing, leveling, and making fondant sculptures. All campers get their very own cake decorating kit to keep, and take home a decorated dessert at the end of the week. Join us for this sweet week!
Week of July 15
Lego Maniacs/Claymation Camp (Ages 7-14) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) If you love building with Legos or creating with clay then this combination camp is for you! Whether you want to build Lego scenes or use clay to produce stop motion video, you can let your imagination run in this camp. Learn how to build, create, film, edit, add sound effects, and titles as individuals or groups to create an epic film you’ll get to see online at the end of the week.
Time Traveler Camp (Ages 6-10) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Take a magical journey back through time to learn about various historic eras. Prepare to explore the lives of dinosaurs and cavemen in the prehistoric era, have a jolly good time learning about jousting and merry making in the Renaissance era, Rock ‘n Roll, dance, and hula hoopin’ await you in the nifty 50’s…so many fun eras to explore you’ll lose track of time entirely when enrolled in the Time Travelers Camp.
Super Powers Film Camp (Ages 8-14) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) It’s time to get your action hero groove on. The camp will explore the special effects of your favorite movies. You’ll learn the magic behind the scenes and use that knowledge to make a really great action hero film with… guess who as the star?… you! The invisibility cloak? Easy. Laser beam eyes? Got that covered. Exploding meteors from space? We’ll have it for you in an hour. It’s time to sign up for a special effects adventure. Your public awaits.
Where in the Word? Geography Camp (Ages 8-12) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Around the world in five days is possible when you sign up for the Where in the World? Geography camp. Crafts, customs, food, and more help our campers learn about various continents and countries in this hands-on camp. Explore all seven continents without leaving Pennsylvania!
Week of July 22
Disney On Stage Camp (Ages 6-14) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are – and you can be whatever Disney character you want to be! Come join us as we create our own Disney Musical Revue to perform on Friday! Campers will learn music and dances to popular Disney music from movies and musicals. We will watch some show stopping musical numbers, explore Disney Broadway musicals, have our own character dress up days, and make our own mouse ears! Don’t miss your summer dose of Disney!
Drawing Camp (Ages 9-15) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) Bring your love of sketching and grow your drawing skills! In this camp, you will learn to see like an artist and improve your artistic confidence. Learn about and enjoy working with a variety of drawing media, both dry and wet.
Make It and Take It Home Science Camp (Ages 6-11) (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) In this hands-on, fun, and exciting program, you will discover how amazing science is. You will make and take home a wide assortment of toys designed to teach you science concepts in a hands-on way. Grow and take home a crystal tree. Make an energy bead bracelet and watch as those amazing beads turn from white to a rainbow of colors before your eyes. Build a working electric motor. Make your own Sharpie marker T-shirt (student supplies 100% cotton T-shirt), and learn some cool chemistry. Make your own bubbling blobs and explore the properties of a density tube. Make silly putty, glowing goo, green flubber, and other cool projects. By the way…we will make ice cream in our own amazing and different way.
Dance Camp (Ages 6-14) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Love the Rockettes…or, So You Think You Can Dance…or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders? Then learn to dance like them! Learn choreography to show stopping Broadway musical numbers, sideline routines, dances for basketball and football games, and more! Dancers will participate in a daily workout and stretch, technique drills, and choreography. From jazz to pom and hip-hop to contemporary, we will explore all styles of dance and performance throughout the week.
Egyptian Dig Camp (Ages 6-11) (12:30-3:30 p.m.) Children discover the amazing science of Archaeology as they uncover ancient artifacts. In doing this, we will learn about Egyptian life. We will excavate with tools like a real archaeologist uses. We will find the following artifacts as we excavate a scarab (what’s that?), hieroglyphic tablet, ankh symbol, and a jackal. You will learn about this and even take home a booklet. The artifacts are yours to keep. We will wet the sand that we dig into and create one of two sand sculptures for display. You can make a pyramid or even a sphinx! Let’s go back in time with a hands-on archaeological experience!
