MMI Preparatory School announced the dedication of its softball field as Warner Field during a ceremony Friday at the school. The name follows a donation of $250,000 from the Warner Family, a four-generation MMI family.
This transformational gift established The Warner Endowed Fund for Baseball and Softball and included the opportunity to name the MMI softball field. The fund will sit in MMI’s endowment and will allow for annual withdrawals to be used to support multiple aspects of MMI’s baseball and softball programs.
Money from the fund will be used to cover the operational expenses of MMI’s varsity baseball and softball programs and will also fund enhancement opportunities for the two programs, including things such as special equipment purchases, guest coaching fees, professional development for coaches, and the costs associated in attending team camps.
During the ceremony, MMI Director of Advancement Kim McNulty introduced MMI Acting Head of School William Shergalis ’58, Ph.D., Athletic Director Vincent Vella, Head Baseball Coach Ryan Jastremsky, Head Softball Coach Mike Witner, and the Warner family. Stanley B. Warner Jr., ‘56 threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Dr. Shergalis said, “At MMI, athletics is among our four pillars of educational excellence. We recognize that character development through athletic competition plays an integral role in the physical, moral, and emotional development of our students. We are honored that the Warner family shares this belief and are grateful to them for their support of our varsity baseball and softball programs through this generous contribution.”
