MMI Preparatory School senior Nash Wenner finished 26th in the nation in the Junior Men’s (16-17-year-old) boardercross division at the 27th annual United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) National Championships at Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado.
A total of 1,250 snowboarders across 148 different age groups participated in six disciplines during the five-day competition. Wenner was ranked first in the Mid-Atlantic region and 12th in the nation entering the competition and received a first-round National Invitation to compete in the championships. He recorded competitive time trials against a field of 137 snowboarders. In his first heat, Wenner was shutting off all lanes to pass while in second place. On the final turn another racer crashed into him and they flew off the course. Wenner had to hike back up onto the course and into the gate to finish the race.
Nash Wenner is the son of Darren and Tracy Wenner of Lehighton. He has been a member of the USASA Mid-Atlantic region for three years and was the 2016 USASA Mid-Atlantic Regional Champion. He is a boardercross racer for the Ice Coast Cross team and competed in numerous races this season across the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian regions.
