Five MMI Preparatory School Spanish students were honored for being among the top students in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Alexander Sessock, Frederick Mejia, Maxwell Santana, Ali Aijaz and Daniel Tron, as well as MMI Spanish instructor Dennis Clarke, received awards during the local chapter’s Spanish Contest Awards dinner in May.
Alexander Sessock won an Honorable Mention award in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter’s essay contest. He was the youngest award recipient in the contest. Frederick Mejia and Maxwell Santana were honored for their performance this year at the Spanish 1 level, while Ali Aijaz and Daniel Tron were recognized for their work at the Spanish 3 level.
Dennis Clarke, who retired from MMI at the end of the 2015-16 school year, was honored as the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter’s outgoing president.
Alexander Sessock is the son of Jennifer and James Dennion, Freeland, and the late John Sessock; Frederick Mejia is the son of Carlos and Esperanza Mejia, West Hazleton; Maxwell Santana is the son of Yris Aquino, Hazleton; Ali Aijaz is the son of Fakhruddin Aijaz and Dr. Naghma Aijaz, Mountaintop; and Daniel Tron is the son of Dr. Eduardo Tron and Dr. Graciela Bianco, Mountaintop.
