MMI Preparatory School will be offering its Entrance Examination on Saturday, January 30, beginning at 9:00 A.M. The exam is for students who will enter grades six through 11 this fall and are considering attending MMI Preparatory School.

The Entrance Examination is comprehensive in nature, assessing students’ general ability (verbal and quantitative), reading comprehension, and mathematic achievement. Writing skills are tested as well with a short essay.

MMI Head of School Thomas G. Hood said, “Because many parents and students realize the benefits of the independent school education that MMI students receive, classes are filling fast. Those interested in MMI for the 2016-17 school year should register as soon as possible to take the examination. Several of our grade levels are at or near capacity so it’s important that parents act soon. We do have a few open seats in both sixth and ninth grade and encourage those considering those grades for the next school year to register for the examination now by contacting the school or visiting our website at www.mmiprep.org.”

Results of the Entrance Exam also determine if a student will receive an MMI Academic Excellence Award. The Academic Excellence Award is available for all students entering seventh through 11th grade. This is just one form of financial aid MMI Preparatory School offers.

For the 2015-16 academic year, 50 percent of MMI students received need-based financial aid, with $879,517 distributed among 126 students. The average need-based award was $6,980 per student.

MMI Preparatory School has a student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1. The average class size is 14.5 students. There are 21 full-time and seven part-time faculty members. Of those faculty, 64 percent hold a master’s degree or greater.

The 2015 Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) average at MMI Preparatory School was 1724 while the state average was 1481 and the national average was 1497. Graduates of MMI have consistently attended some of the nation’s top colleges and universities and the school celebrates a nearly perfect record of seniors progressing to college.

“Our entrance examination is the beginning of the admissions process, so we encourage anyone who is thinking about an MMI education to take the entrance examination, visit our campus, and learn about our programs,” said Marci Hosier, Director of Admissions.

The exam will be held in classrooms throughout the school, so those taking the test should report to the Coxe Commons that morning.

Registration for the examination is required. There is a $25 exam and application fee that can be paid on the morning of the exam. To register, contact the school at 570-636-1108 or admissions@mmiprep.org. For more information, visit www.mmiprep.org.
