Student accepted into Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins

Angel A. Alday, a freshman at MMI, has been accepted into the Peabody Institute of The John Hopkins University.

Of the 45 accepted, Angel is one of only two students from Pennsylvania who will participate in the Peabody Preparatory Chamber Music Week in August under the direction of Dr. Christian Tremblay and Rebecca Henry. She is working on Aria (Cantilena) by Heitor Villa-Lobos, London trio by J. Hayon, Trio Sonata by G. Tartini, Allegro for String orchestra by Gioseffo Hectore Fiocco and Three Slavonic Dances by Anton Dvorak.

Peabody Conservatory was founded over 150 years ago. It strives to provide education for students to become leaders in the cultural life of their communities. As a gathering place for artistic participants in the field of music, it incubates and promotes valuable art forms.

The Peabody Institute has become a valuable leader in Maryland’s culture and has built an international reputation. As part of The Johns Hopkins University, Peabody takes its place beside the university’s other world-famous center of learning in the sciences, humanities, medicine and research, where Angel’s older brother, Adrian A. Alday, is a part of the research team at the Armstrong Institute at Johns Hopkins University.

Angel started playing the violin in fourth grade and was mentored by Dr. Sophie Till, director of the string project at Marywood University, and Mr. John Vaida of Wyoming Seminary. She participated in the Wilkes University String festival and in the Marywood University Celebration of Strings during the 2013-2014 school year upon the recommendation of Mrs. Christine Lizbinski, MMI music teacher. She plays for the Wyoming Seminary Civic Symphony Orchestra under the conduction of Dr. Rick Hoffenberg. Angel is currently a student of Ms. Lynn Hurst.
