Students at MMI Preparatory School had a close encounter with Hollywood Thursday thanks to a visit from Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the organization behind the Oscar awards.
MMI Drama Club presents “The Music Man”
The MMI Preparatory School Drama Club presented “The Music Man” on Saturday, March 21 at 7:00 P.M. and Sunday, March 22 at 6:00 P.M. in the MMI Athletics and Drama Complex, 154 Centre Street, Freeland.
Wister Quartet to perform at MMI on March 23
For the 12th consecutive year, MMI Preparatory School will host the Grammy-nominated Wister Quartet for a public performance at the school on Monday, March 23 at 7:00 P.M. The performance is made possible through the support of Dr. James W. Feussner ’65 in memory of Elizabeth Feussner.
MMI announces summer camps open to area children
MMI Preparatory School is opening its doors to area students who wish to have an educational, yet fun summer experience at the annual MMI Summer Camps planned for June and July. The school has announced the lineup of camps that range from programs such as junior filmmaking, messy arts, electronics, Lego Maniacs, and model airplanes, just to mention a few. Alexander Sessock to compete at state-level National Geographic Bee
Alexander Sessock, an eighth-grade student at MMI Preparatory School, will progress to the state-level competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.
Students place in MATHCOUNTS competition
During a regional mathematics competition, a team of students from MMI Preparatory School placed fourth in the team competition out of 14 teams in the region. Two MMI students placed second and tenth, respectively, in the individual competition, and one of those students will go on to states.
Freeland historical expert to discuss local history
Freeland native and historical expert Charlotte Tancin is returning to her hometown to share her historical knowledge of the borough during a presentation that will be held at MMI Preparatory School on Centre Street in Freeland.
Marci Hosier new director of admissions and marketing
Marcianna (Marci) Hosier was recently appointed to the position of Director of Admissions and Marketing at MMI Preparatory School. Hosier is a native of Northeastern Pennsylvania and has spent time working in media, higher education, and non-profit institutions.

MMI FBLA excels in competition
Students from the MMI Preparatory School Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competed at the Region 16 Leadership Conference held at the Woodlands Resort in Wilkes-Barre December 18, 2014. Of the 59 students who competed, nearly half received special honors for their performance in various business-related competitive events.
Chiara DeMelfi to compete in regional poetry competition
MMI Preparatory School senior Chiara DeMelfi, daughter of Daniel and Esme DeMelfi, Hazleton, will be competing in the “Poetry Out Loud” Regional Competition. The competition will be held at the WVIA studios in Pittston on February 17 and will be televised in April.

United Way of Wyoming Valley contributes to MMI through EITC program
MMI Preparatory School in Freeland recently received a $40,000 contribution from the United Way of Wyoming Valley, presented by Nina C. Dei Tos ’01 MPA, Vice President of Resource Development. These funds will be used for scholarship support for MMI students who reside in the Wyoming Valley and meet the criteria for an Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Scholarship.
