Twenty-two MMI Preparatory School students received First and Second Awards during the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) regional competition earlier this month and 12 of them will move on to represent MMI at the virtual state competition in May.

MMI senior Dominique Kline received two awards in the regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Kline, the daughter of John and June Kline of Mountaintop, won a Silver Key for her poem, “no harmony in human NATURE” and was awarded an Honorable Mention for her poem “Notches on a Belt.” MMI English instructor Jennifer Novotney served as the advisor for the competition.

MMI purchases six circuit drawing pens with Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance grant from Onvo
MMI Preparatory School purchased six Circuit Scribe drawing pens and additional refills with a $500 Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance grant received from Onvo. The Circuit Scribe conductive ink pen, which contains actual liquid silver, offers instructors an innovative way of teaching how electricity and electronics work and gives students an immersive, hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) experience.
Thirty-one MMI students place in top five at FBLA Regionals and 23 advance to FBLA State Leadership Conference
Thirty-one of MMI Preparatory School’s 51 participants placed in the top five of their respective categories at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional competition, including nine individuals and two teams who captured first place, and 23 students will advance to the 2021 FBLA State Leadership Conference.
MMI Upper School Drama Club virtual one-act comedy show postponed until January
Due to Governor Tom Wolf’s announcement on Thursday that all extracurricular activities must be suspended, the MMI Upper School Drama Club is postponing the debut of its virtual one-act comedy show, which was originally scheduled for December 18. The show will now debut in January at a date and time to be announced.

Jillian McGeehin will represent MMI at Poetry Out Loud regional competition
MMI Preparatory School sophomore Jillian McGeehin, the daughter of Larry and Amy McGeehin of Sugarloaf, won the School’s Poetry Out Loud competition and will represent MMI at the regional competition. Sophomore Annabel Dobash, the daughter of Gregory and Stacey Dobash of Mountaintop, was the runner-up. MMI English instructor Jennifer Novotney served as the faculty advisor.
